SAN FRANCISCO – May 10, 2013: Ray of Light Theatre (www.rayoflighttheatre.com), San Francisco’s inimitable, non-profit, volunteer-managed musical theatre company is pleased to announce that PopChips is an official sponsor of its 2013 Season.

PopChips is generously donating bags of their delicious chips for Ray of Light’s 2013 Season. Patrons will be able to enjoy their tasty treats at upcoming performances.

PopChips has a simple mission: To bring the fun back to snacking. And thanks to the magic of popping, they have found a way to pop all the flavor in, while keeping fake stuff and at least half the fat of regular flavored chips out. They don’t fry them (unhealthy). They don’t bake them (un-delicious). Instead they take the finest naturally delicious ingredients, add a little heat and pressure, and pop! it’s a chip. With their flavorful blend of seasonings and varieties, PopChips are a snack so delicious and crispy, you won’t even notice it’s healthier! Learn more at: www.popchips.com

SAN FRANCISCO – March 1, 2013: Ray of Light Theatre (www.rayoflighttheatre.com), San Francisco’s inimitable, non-profit, volunteer-managed musical theatre company is pleased to celebrate one of its own. Visa Inc has contributed $5,000 to Ray of Light Theatre in honor of Patron Services Manager Gregory Sottolano’s volunteerism and his devoted service in support of the nonprofit’s mission to entertain, educate and enrich the San Francisco Bay Area community.

Gregory Sottolano joined the Ray of Light family in 2011 when he was cast as Charles Guiteau (BATCC Award – Best Featured Actor) in its award-winning production of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins. Struck by the quality of the production and the sense of community that extended from the show itself, Greg immediately expressed interest in volunteering ‘behind the scenes.’ In just two short years, Greg has grown from a dedicated volunteer to an integral part of the management team as Ray of Light’s Patron Services Manager. In this role, he focuses on ensuring every guest who attends a Ray of Light Theatre production, class or cabaret has a meaningful and enriching experience. Specifically, he is responsible for running the box office, managing the ‘front of the house’ (anything not related to the production on stage), planning concessions sales and management of the next generation of dedicated volunteers.

“Ray of Light Theatre is honored to receive this $5,000 grant from Visa. Ray of Light Theatre relies solely on the sale of tickets and donations to fund and support the organization. This contribution of $5,000 is an incredibly significant sum of money to help us grow for the future,” said Jason Hoover, Artistic Director, Ray of Light Theatre. “Visa joins an esteemed list of contributors for Ray of Light’s 2013 season that also includes Mollie Stone’s, Yelp!, Eventbrite, Drake’s Brewery and generous individual donors that span the Bay Area and beyond. We congratulate Greg on his service and thank Visa for their generosity.”

INTO THE WOODS

May 31st – June 29th, 2013
The Eureka Theatre (Jackson/Battery), San Francisco
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Book by James Lapine
Directed by Eliza Leoni

Into the Woods humorously combines a number of classic fairy tales into one hilarious, touching, over-arching narrative. A baker and his wife are assigned a number of tasks by a nearby witch; only after completing these duties will they be able to bear children. During their quest to fulfill the witches’ demands, they encounter Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and numerous other fairy tale figures. The traditional stories are parodied and altered at will, yet the original fairy tales’ sense of wonder and, at times, darkness remains intact. The score, winner of Broadway’s Tony Award, includes such songs as Children Will Listen, Giants in the Sky and No One Is Alone.

CARRIE THE MUSICAL

*WEST COAST PREMIERE*
October 4th – November 2nd, 2013
The Victoria Theatre (16th/Mission), San Francisco
Music by Michael Gore; Lyrics by “tephen Sondheim Dean Pitchford; Book by Hugh Wheeler Lawrence D. Cohen
Directed by Jason Hoover; Musical Direction by Ben Prince

It’s bloody. It’s creepy. It’s campy. It’s CARRIE THE MUSICAL! Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, Carrie The Musical hasn’t been seen much since its legendary 1988 Broadway production. Now, the show’s original authors have reworked and fully re-imagined this gripping tale. And Ray of Light Theatre is thrilled to present the West Coast Premiere next fall at The Victoria Theatre! Set today, in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie White is a misfit. At school, she’s an outcast who’s bullied by the popular crowd yet virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she’s at the mercy of her loving yet cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie’s just discovered she’s got a special power. And if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it…

Kudos to lead actor Joshua Fryvecind (as Jerry Lukowski), who imbues a blue-collar persona with a sympathetic core, and whose assured vocalizations are reminiscent of Don Henley.” - Greg Alonzo, Stark Insider

“The huge production of Ray of Light Theatre’s The Full Monty may be packed into the tiny Eureka Theater (opening night was squirming-room-only), but it astonished me how satisfying such full measures of delight, laughter, robust song, and crisp dance could be packed into this revival. Add to that the musical’s memorable messages about self-definition, self-esteem, and the fine art of getting back up when life knocks you down, and you have an evening of pure entertainment.” – Stacy Trevenson, StageAndCinema.com

“Ray of Light Theatre proudly waves the banner of ‘community theatre’, celebrating the combined contributions of gifted amateurs, beginners and seasoned professionals. It is a style perfectly suited to The Full Monty.” – BATCC Blogger and Critic, Charles Kruger (TheatreStorm)

“Director Jason Hoover continues to make magic as he seems to be able to work well with the canvas he’s presented…” – Kevin Thomas, Examiner.com

“The cast does an excellent job at bringing out the impact of these circumstances through nuances which aren’t in the script- the use of expressions, body language and intonation all add depth to characters which in the hands of less-talented actors could easily be little more than stereotypes or caricatures.” – John Marcher, A Beast in the Jungle
